Summer has finally arrived and we are welcoming it with open arms. The aspen leaves have started blooming and the green grass and alpine flowers have come up. The waterfalls are gorgeous and the rivers are flowing high with all of the melting snow.
The Elevation Vacations Team just had a "company meeting" on the north fork of the Gunnison River in the Black Canyon and it was so much fun! Our trusty Captain (and co-owner of EV), Paul Zabel, did a great job navigating the water and the team worked hard together to get through the big rapids.

Telluride Summer Festival Season
The Telluride Mountain Film Festival has reported a 25% increase from 2009 in attendance for the recent Memorial Day weekend. Buoyed by a host of top quality, inspiring, sobering, and informative films like "Bag It and "I Am" produced by filmmakers with Telluride connections the summer season is off to a great start.
Upcoming Festivals include Bluegrass, Wine Fest, and Telluride's very special spin on the Fourth of July. We are excited about two nights with the band Phish following immediately on the heels of the Jazz Festival in August. The world renowned Telluride Film Festival over Labor Day is sure to bring hits and surprises. There have been some last minute changes of the Blues and Brews Festival line up in mid September but the rumor is that they will soon come up with a special announcement that will blow us all away. There's an event for every weekend and every interest—check out the summer calendar.
Be here to experience a festival, ride the free Gondola, mix in a couple of the nearby hikes or a day of fishing, add dinners at some of our great restaurants and you are sure to have the vacation of a lifetime. However, if you are fortunate enough to have more time to spend—combine two or three festivals, put the kids in a program at the Telluride Academy, and add a couple epic adventures—rafting through the Black Canyon, climb a "fourteener", or go for a glider ride. The summer adventure possibilities in Telluride are endless!

New Mountain Village Rental Regulations—preventing vacation nightmares!
On December 26 last year we received a call from a frantic visitor who had booked their lodging through a "rent by owner" website, having been given a "great price" and paid by check in advance they thought that they had made the deal of the century. Sadly, when they arrived they found that the home they had rented had been repossessed by the bank and their payment was lost, held by the insolvent homeowner. After a long trip to Mountain Village with tons of snow and nowhere to stay, their vacation was off to a rough start.
Fortunately, they soon found us at Elevation Vacations, we were able to quickly put them in a home for the duration of their visit!
A business like ours provides a professional buffer between the visitor and homeowner adding a level of security in these short term rental transactions. While we recognize the value of the many new visitors who have first found Telluride via "rent by owner" websites, we have long recognized that the bad experience of even one visitor will reflect badly on Mountain Village and Telluride as a whole.
Mountain Village has closed loop holes and sharpened up regulations governing how private homes and condos may be marketed and rented out as lodging, helping to prevent experiences like our December visitor's. This provides an overall improvement in the guest experience for visitors to Mountain Village and some greater sense of surety for our visitors who are counting on a great vacation rental experience in Mountain Village.
We applaud the Mountain Village Town Council for taking this action—we hope to soon see similar regulations take effect in Historic Telluride.
