The Ouray Ice Festival is a three-day interactive climbers’ rendezvous dedicated to the celebration of the spirit of ice climbing. The Climbing Competition has become the centerpiece of the weekend. The 2006 final competition will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2006.

Top men and women climbers from around the world are invited to compete in the challenging arena of steep climbs in the Ice Park.

The Festival provides a major part of the financial support for Ouray Ice Park Inc., the only public park of its kind dedicated to the sport of ice climbing in the United States.

The Ouray Ice Craft Invitational Competition will be slightly different than in the past. A panel of noted ice climbing judges will evaluate each contestant’s demonstrations of: Mixed Climbing Ability

The judging criteria (provided at the contestants’ meeting before the start of the Competition) is based on a 10-point scoring system, with categories such as beauty of line, efficiency, security, artistry and difficulty. Adding up the scores in each category will determine the overall prize winner.

In this event, the competition climber who reaches the highest point or tops out on the route will be awarded the overall prize. Ties will be broken by: (1) least number of major mistakes/slips; and (2) total elapsed time.

Women's Weeks were started in Telluride in 1981 as the first women specific clinic in North America. Women skiing with women instructors and colleagues with similar goals and skill levels have proved to be challenging, rewarding, and refreshing.
